A Review Of Bagasse And Its Applications In Compostable Food Packaging

This write-up will give you a quick overview of bagasse and bagasse compostable food packaging. We will then discuss a few brief reasons outlining why we support using bagasse biodegradable food containers.

Bagasse Synopsis – Bagasse, if you don’t already know, is a discarded off shoot of the sugarcane manufacturing process. Basically, sugar cane as soon as it’s taken to a manufacturing facility to be refined, is squeezed for its juice and the remaining fibrous material is bagasse. Bagasse has typically just been dumped in the trash or it has been used as a fuel in some manufacturing facilities to power the sugarcane production process; but regrettably, as a result of being employed as a fuel, it emits some contaminants into the natural environment.

Today, bagasse is being made into biodegradable food service ware. Listed here are several quick reasons explaining why we’re fans of bagasse biodegradable plates & food containers.

#1 – Sustainable. Bagasse is derived from sugar cane which happens to be an annually renewable resource. Sugarcane matures incredibly rapidly and by using it in biodegradable bowls & compostable food packaging you are keeping it from either being discarded or being employed as an energy source which will emit toxins into the natural environment.

#2 – If you’ve ever touched a bagasse biodegradable food container before or if you have gotten a good look at a bagasse product, you’ll have observed that the product has a very natural appearance. Biodegradable bowls made from bagasse are textured and the products really do look very natural. This aspect is crucial especially when bagasse food packaging products land up in commercial composting centers (which is a key component of taking advantage of the environmental benefits of bagasse). If they are deposited in those composting facilities, it is quite easy to determine that the biodegradable bowl was made from bagasse, that it does belong in a municipal composting facility, that it’s going to compost, and that it should not be removed from that composting center.

#3 – The third reason why we’re big supporters of bagasse is quite frankly the quality of the containers. Bagasse biodegradable food containers are very tough. They are quite sturdy and certainly one of the best things about them as well is that they hold up to temperatures north of 150 degrees fahrenheit very well. You can place very hot chili into a bagasse container; in fact you can put a variety of hot food or liquids in bagasse and you’re going to get a tiny bit of sweat beneath the product, but otherwise it is going to look after that heated food very well.

And so, that is our summary of bagasse and bagasse food containers.

This Cure For Constipation Will Amaze You

Are you sick of feeling bloated and having putrid flatulence? Are you tired of suffering from constipation? Do you realize the dangers of prolonged use of laxatives? Would you like to end the pain and discomfort associated with constipation? Would ten or fifteen minutes be a reasonable trade, if it would help you find a cure for constipation? What if this activity Could make you a better person?

Grandmothers have been telling us to do this from time eternal. She more than likely didn’t know it could cure constipation. No, this one is not fiber, prunes, fruit, juice, or even nuts. It is not drinking more water, or less dairy. It is also not exercising. These are all a cure for constipation, but not what I’m talking about. This remedy is absolute simplicity. OK this is an exercise, but it won’t ever make you sweat.

OK enough already! What is this magic obvious cure for digestion problems? Chew your food.

We are all in such hurries, we wolf our food without even tasting it let alone chewing. We don’t have time to eat, so we eat quickly, because we have 300 other things competing for our time. Here is what happens when we do chew our food, and what happens when we do not.

What chewing does for us.

Digestion begins in the mouth. Saliva contains enzymes needed to begin breaking the food we eat down. Our saliva alters the chemical makeup of the food. Chewing grinds the food which physically changes its structure as well. Take grain for instance. Not only does the saliva begin to change the grain into usable starch (sugar) so our body can absorb it, but the physical action of chewing mechanically breaks the fibers in the food. Your teeth effectively grind your food, so the saliva enzymes can completely penetrate the food you are chewing.

When you chew, your brain sends signals to your stomach and intestines that food is on the way. Your body can prepare itself for everything it will need to properly digest the food you eat. By giving your system a head start, the food you eat is better absorbed and digested. This passes the food more effectively and efficiently through your body. The more nutrients absorbed from the food you eat, the less fat that is absorbed for later use.

The last sentence is worth repeating. The more nutrients that are absorbed from the food you eat, the less fat that is extracted and stored for later use. Ladies listen up, when you eat fast, your system panics, little nutrients are absorbed, but fatis extracted and stored for later use.

What happens when properly chewing is ignored.

Food will not break down properly in your stomach if saliva doesn’t thoroughly saturate your food. The acids produced in your stomach are specially designed and formulated to react with the enzymes in your saliva, this is how digestion is designed. Less chewing time means less digestion from the digestive tract. Only the outermost layer of food is properly digested. This limits the small intestine to only get the nutrients from the outside layer. Besides absorbing the fat which normally keeps your stool soft, is indigestible food is pushed to the large intestine where it rots.

This rotting food causes gas, bloating, and pressure. Since all of the fat was absorbed rather than included with the waste to help make it soft, when water is extracted from the colon, you are left with constipation.

Now what about making you a better person?

By chewing your food completely, you will have less time to talk and more time to listen. Two ears, one mouth, use them in proportion. You will be surprised what will happen to your relationships when you listen twice as much as you talk.

Cure Uterine Fibroids By Reducing Estrogen And Balancing The Hormones

Many women of childbearing age suffer with fibroids and fibrocystic breast disease. For many the condition will prohibit planning a pregnancy.

Many post-menopausal women are taking estrogen replacement drugs that help control hot flashes and mood. However there are so many research studies implicating estrogen replacement with an increased risk of cancer, it hardly seems worth it to use this treatment to control hot flashes.

Many post-menopausal women are surprised to learn that despite their wise refusal of estrogen replacement, they too are estrogen dominant, and this excess estrogen in fueling the growth of fibroids and fibroid cysts in the uterus and breasts.

So what do you do? It you are on oral contraception or any type of hormone contraception (i.e, DeproProvera, etc.), discontinue it and use an alternative that is hormone free. If you are currently on estrogen replacement, tell your doctor that you want to discontinue it. (Later you can explore bio-identical hormone replacement with a qualified practitioner.)

Avoid drugs that contain hormones such as cortisone and prednisone. Avoid hydrocortisone cream.

Avoid estrogen-rich foods such as: soy products (tofu, soy yogurt, soy milk, etc.), flax seeds and flax oil, canola oil (from the rapeseed) as well as all seeds, pods, and beans. Think of every seed, pod and bean as a mini uterus ready to reproduce and consequently high in estrogen. Yes, many of these foods are famous for their nutritional value. However, for the individual with fibroids these foods will fuel the growth of the tumors. Soy in particular is everywhere in processed food products.

Avoid the so-called womens herbs or herbal formulas as these contain herbs known to be high in phytoestrogens. This can be the ultimate in irony as many natural approaches to treating fibroids recommend herbs that will in the short term have a positive effect, but in the long term fuel the growth of fibroids due their high content of estrogens.

Avoid herbicides and pesticides. These chemicals are known as xenoestrogens since they mimic the activity of natural estrogen. Stay away from golf courses, commercial farms, pest control sprays, fuel and solvent fumes. Always soak fruits and vegetables in a sink of water and a tablespoon of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide or a mixture of one half vinegar and water for 20 minutes, followed by a thorough rinse. Seek out my article on identifying estrogenic foods and herbs.

Metabolizing excessive estrogen is possible with a specific herbal formula developed by an oncologist with training in Chinese medicine (check below) and the use of a pure progesterone cream. Progesterone supplementation via a transdermal cream is an easy and powerful way to recover from the estrogen dominant condition that causes the growth of uterine fibroids, fibrocystic breasts and endometriosis. Progesterone quite simply puts excessive estrogen into balance. However, many formulas contain ingredients that are estrogenic in a misguided attempt to improve on pure progesterone. Read labels!

Estrogen is stored in body fat. Body fat is most often the result of a lower metabolism due to a sluggish and toxic liver. Excessive estrogens are contributing factors to weight gain. When the liver fails to eliminate estrogens efficiently, the excessive estrogens stimulate fat cell production from the lower abdominal area to the knees where estrogens are more concentrated.

Estrogens also bind to sodium which retains water and leads to weight gain. Chinese bitters can be helpful in detoxifying the liver and increasing the flow of bile. However, the fast track to a more functional liver can be realized by engaging in a series of liver-gallbladder flushes to remove the cholesterol pellets that clog the bilary ducts of the liver and impede the flow of bile. The easiest and most effective L-G flush uses an ozonated olive oil product, Olive Gold 03.

The best natural treatments for uterine fibroid tumors address the cause and the symptoms of the problem. Fibroid tumors develop due to excessive estrogen. The fibroid tumor is the symptom and product of the cause. Since fibroids are composed of fibrin, the same material of scar tissue, taking a professional strength systemic enzyme formula will dissolve the fibroid and remove this tissue altogether over time. When combined with the hormone balancing strategy this protocol offers the best natural approach to defeating uterine fibroids once and for all.

One semester of food service program leads to a career in long-term care

Many programs take years to complete, some with no practical experience. One program is changing the way schools work, with one semester consisting of five major components and a 16-week field placement in a healthcare facility. It is the Food Service Worker (1620) program from Centennial College, which provides a high food service degree on nutrition, food quality, and cleanliness.

Under the School of Community and Health Studies, students train based on the food preparation guidelines from the Dietitians of Canada and the Ontario Society of Nutrition Management. The curriculum itself was developed alongside the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The series of courses prepare students to enter the workplace with the skills and ethics of a professional:

Students can appreciate the role of a Food Service Worker by exploring the operations and management of the profession, including quality management, risk management, ethical issues, and laws and regulations.
Workers come into close contact with clients and have to coordinate meal plans and other services with colleagues. Communication and customer service are key to this role and a course has been created to focus on these skills as they are managed in the food service and healthcare sectors.
Another close encounter workers will have is with diseases, so health and safety is a big issue in the workplace. Safety and sanitation is declared an essential skill, which every student is required to understand proper food handling procedures and safe work habits to prevent food contamination and food borne illnesses.
Especially in healthcare, nutrition is vital to menu planning. Students will learn basic food preparation using based on Canada’s Food guide, but will also learn how to accommodate clients with strict diets. Nutrition for therapeutic and texture modificationwill also be explored.
Students will practice their food preparation skills with four hours of kitchen lab sessions per week. They will learn how to handle and maintain kitchen equipment, and how to implement menu planning on a large scale.

Open for enrollment twice a year, students attend the Morningside campus alongside other healthcare students, where they can connect with their peers and gain industry connections early on in their careers. Although this full-time program is offered within 15 weeks, students have the option to enroll through the School of Continuing Education for part-time, distance learning, accelerated, and fast-track program options.

-You will be able to apply at long-term care facilities, working within the dietary department, as well as acute care, which (includes) any hospitals or any community services that have healthcare components in the food service industry,- says Professor Karen Barnes.

Centennial graduates are living healthy careers in long-term care facilities, retirement homes, and hospitals. The Food Service Worker program equips students with the knowledge of kitchen tools and the care for nutrition and safety of food preparation sought out by many healthcare organizations. Graduates receive the Ontario College Certificate as well as a food handler’s certification called the TrainCanBasics.fst Food Safety Certificate. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Milk Protein Carp Baits; Top Dough And Boilie Recipes And Ingredients!

Carp baits made from milk protein ingredients are without doubt some of the most successful carp baits ever! *

Most importantly, they are extremely high in high quality proteins. They provide for carps’ dietary essential amino acids requirements. And these amino acids combined with the taste, smell and flavour of these ingredients, make them irresistible to carp! Even scientists testing carp feeding responses to different chemicals use the milk derivative casein as a ‘control’ food, because carp love eating it for it’s beneficial effects.

-Milk proteins’ are extracts of whole milk by using various processes. Some use acids or charcoal, others use physical means like grading screens. Each extraction process retains certain nutritional qualities that are better for individual bait purposes, and offer different qualities and properties of milk protein ingredients in a bait.

The milk derivatives called caseins are exceptionally high in protein. As such, they have been highly favored for use in protein carp baits in homemade and commercially produced baits.

Caseins are measured in -mesh grades,’ and vary widely in quality solubility and digestibility. -Acid’ and -rennet’ type extraction caseins are often used. These often represent the highest quality whole food protein in a -balanced nutritional value’ carp bait.

They are recommended to be used together as part of a bait as a 50 % / 50 % mixture, and offer 90 % and 95 % nutritional protein.

They are less soluble than many other milk protein extracts. Lower quality caseins are utilized in industry, for example in plastics and glues. It has often been recommended to use the highest -food consumption’ grade quality and freshness caseins in carp baits.

These can expensive to buy so and lower quality grades of caseins have been used in baits. Individuals and bait companies have still used -industrial grade’ caseins to produce good catches!

Caseins, caseinates and fish meals have become a very successful basic nutritional combination over the years.

-Lactalbumin’ is a more soluble extract, and has 88 % protein. It is actually composed of lactalbumin and lactoglobulins. It has elements which are not soluble; but it’s one of the very best sources of quality protein available in carp bait making. Carp also love its creamy taste.

Sodium caseinate is a renowned, highly nutritional carp attractor in its own right. It is lighter than calcium caseinate, binds well with other ingredients, and is 96 % protein. Carp love its taste and smell. It is highly water soluble.

Along with calcium caseinate (similar), and casein, these are used predominantly as the quality protein ingredients in an extremely wide range of baits, and form part of carp fishing -folklore’. It is very water soluble and digestible, but its limitation in bait use, is its high buoyancy!

Used in high levels, Sodium caseinate is often the main protein ingredient of semi-buoyant boilies. Rates of around 50 % inclusion in the dry powders -base mix’ are used for floating boilies or so called -pop-ups.’ Sodium caseinate is very highly recommended in pastes too!

To make baits softer and more soluble, whole milk powder and tinned -baby milks’ can be used. Calf milk replacers are used in the same way. There are many milk replacers that have proven their worth in carp baits, providing different qualities to the baits.

Even the tinned evaporated milk is a proven favorite additive. Rates of use for most individual milk derivatives in powder form average up to 25 % of a total pound mix for example. (Or 4 ounces per pound of a dry mix.

* Milk protein recipes:

One of the most successful baits of the -1970’s to early 1980’s era, in the UK, was what was termed -the four milks.’ This consisted of equal amounts of casein, lactalbumin, sodium caseinate and an ingredient referred to as -FinnStim’, which contains purified crystalline betaine, and was best optimized with added amino acids.

Apparently, this was one of the kinds of bait that made top international carp angler, Kevin Maddox, famous.

With a slight change, Rod Hutchinson gave me this formula; it produced very well when I began taking carp fishing more seriously around 1980:

* 4 Ounces of casein. * 4 Ounces of sodium caseinate. * 4 Ounces of lactalbumin. * 4 Ounces of soya isolate. * 15 Milliliters of amino acids compound. * 3 To 5 milliliters of -scopex’ flavour. * 1 Teaspoon of a sweet -appetite stimulator’ powder. * Four large eggs.

Although expensive, this bait was really excellent, and I still recommend it today.

Other recipes followed in which it was recommended to combine different nutritional base mixes and flavours together. For example, by combining a milk protein base mix with perhaps an amino acid compound based mix. Or with a spray dried fruit juices based mix, or a sugars base mix, or with a spicy yeast base mix.

Here is an effective milk protein bait with mixed spices and herbs added:

* 4 Ounces of casein. * 4 Ounces of sodium caseinate. * 4 Ounces of lactalbumin. * 4 Ounces of soya isolate. * 1 Tablespoon of mixed spices and herbs. * 15 Milliters (or more,) of amino acids compound. * 3 To 5 milliliters of -ultraspice’ flavour. * 1 Teaspoon of sweet -appetite stimulator’ powder. * Four large eggs. * 1 Tablespoon of sweet molasses.

With these as -control’ baits, you can safely experiment with other ingredients, like body building protein powders, herbs, animal feeds, extracts, and so on, and continue catching carp with confidence!
